Early morning Palmetto shooting may be drug-related

MANATEE -- A 29-year-old man with gunshot wounds was taken to the hospital early Sunday, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

The shooting was reported by on-site security at Oakwood Estates Apartments, 900 block of 21st St. E, Palmetto about 3:27 a.m.

The victim told investigators he was sitting outside his apartment when he was approached by two males dressed in black demanding drugs. When the victim told them he had none, they shot him, according to the sheriff's report.

The victim's injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
