Pedestrian hurt in hit-and-run crash on University Parkway in Manatee

The Florida Highway Patrol is trying to identify the hit-and-runn driver who struck and injured a 71-year-old pedestrian trying to cross University Parkway late Wednesday.

About 9:55 p.m., the pedestrian was trying to walk north across University Parkway just west of Lockwood Ridge when he was hit by what witnesses said was a green car heading eastbound on University Parkway, according to an FHP report.

FHP said the pedestrian, who was hospitalized in serious condition, was not in the crosswalk when he was struck.

After the crash, the driver continued eastbound on University Parkway, FHP said.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run driver and/or vehicle can call FHP Trooper D.A. Cole at 239-938-1800.
