Bradenton firefighters respond to water leak in city building

BRADENTON -- The Bradenton Fire Department responded to a water leak in a sublevel storage cellar Monday afternoon at the Bradenton Municipal Auditorium.

Assistant Fire Chief David Ezell, who was on scene, said he was back to his office between appointments when he received a report about a sprinkler activation.

"I was interested to go by and take a look at the facility to see the extent of the damage," he said. "At the time, I didn't realize it was a city building."

Ezell said one of the sprinkler heads in the cellar was "sheared off," causing water to flow in the room for about 10-15 minutes. He said it most likely happened after an item was hung on one of the sprinklers.

"We've got a few inches of standing water down there, really no significant damage to speak of," Ezell said. "It's just a matter of getting the water out and then getting the water dried up so we won't have a mold issue later on."

According to Battalion Chief Tim Geer , there was no fire and no injuries were reported.
