2 teenagers charged with drug distribution in Bradenton after girlfriend overdoses

MANATEE -- Two 19-year-olds were charged with distribution Sunday morning after deputies found more than a pound of marijuana in their car, just after one teenager's girlfriend suffered an overdose in the backseat, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Cody Voitle, 19, of Gainesville, was in a car that struck a pole protecting a gas pump at the 7-Eleven at 5640 14th Street West at 11:21 a.m., according to an arrest report. Dustyn Holmes, 19, of Alachua, was driving the car and two women were in the backseat. Deputies said they learned from people on scene that Voitle's girlfriend in the backseat had overdosed on heroin, and Voitle was "extremely upset."

Deputies said the car smelled strongly of marijuana and Holmes said he and Voitle had smoked a blunt next to the car. Deputies told Voitle and Holmes the car would be searched and Voitle told them he had marijuana in his pocket and handed it over. The marijuana weighed 16.1 grams.

Voitle was arrested and deputies also found five xanax pills on his person, according to the report. Voitle said he had a prescription but he didn't have the bottle with him.

Both Voitle and Holmes denied that more marijuana was in the vehicle, but one of the women said there were a couple pounds of marijuana in it and some heroin.

Deputies found an airtight ziploc bag in the back of the vehicle that had 479.5 grams, or more than a pound, of marijuana in it, another 32 grams of marijuana and 0.4 grams of heroin. Both Holmes and Voitle said they knew about the bag but denied ownership.

Holmes was also arrested and deputies found 0.2 grams of marijuana on him. He was charged with marijuana distribution and possession of heroin. He is being held in the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $10,000.

Voitle was charged with distribution of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of marijuana. He was released from the Manatee County jail Monday on bonds totaling $3,500.
