Knowellan Kelly's siblings to remain with maternal grandfather as investigation into Bradenton infant's death continues

MANATEE -- A case planning conference involving the mother of 15-month Knowellan Kelly has been set for Jan. 20.

The date in the case involving Danake Crawford, the mother of the Bradenton infant and his three siblings, was set in a very brief hearing Monday afternoon before Manatee Circuit Judge Scott M. Brownell.

As of late last week, Circuit Judge Robert Farrance ordered the child's siblings, ages 2, 3 and 6, to remain in protective custody.

Knowellan died Dec. 13 of injuries consistent with child abuse, according to an autopsy performed two days later. On Dec. 12, deputies were called to Manatee Memorial Hospital regarding suspicious circumstances involving Knowellan. The child was treated at the hospital and then transported to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he died the following night.

"Mr. Kelly has agreed to allow the children to remain with the maternal grandfather pending completion of this investigation," said a woman at the hearing who later declined to be named.

Judge Brownell upheld the shelter for the children and set an arraignment hearing for 9 a.m. Jan. 26.
