Bradenton couple arrested after deputies find heroin, cocaine in vehicle

MANATEE -- A call about two people unconscious in a vehicle Wednesday night resulted in a deputy finding eight grams of cocaine, six grams of heroin, two grams of marijuana and $237 in cash, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The deputy responded to the call about a man and woman unconscious in a car outside a McDonalds at 8164 N. Tamiami Trail at 11:08 p.m. and woke both of them up, according to an arrest report. The woman in the driver's seat, Dionne Chandler, was slumped over the steering wheel and the man, Tavaris Edwards, was leaning back in his seat.

The deputy said he smelled marijuana and saw burnt ends of what looked like marijuana cigarettes in the ash tray of the car, so he had both of them get out of the vehicle and detained them.

The deputy searched the vehicle and found a bag with eight grams of cocaine and a bag of six grams of heroin in the glove box, according to the report. The drugs were in 47 individual baggies packaged for sale.

Deputies then arrested and searched Edwards, 29, finding two grams of marijuana and $237 on him. He refused to speak with law enforcement.

Chandler, 26, told the deputy that she had smoked marijuana but had no knowledge of the other drugs in the car, according to the report. She was also arrested.

Tavaris was charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine and sale of heroin. He was released from the Manatee County jail Thursday on bonds totaling $9,500.

Chandler was charged with possession of marijuana and introducing contraband into a detention facility. She was released from the jail Friday on bonds totaling $2,000.
