Prosecutor's wife charged with stealing TV from Kmart store in Ellenton
MANATEE -- The wife of a local prosecutor was charged Tuesday with stealing a television from a Kmart in Ellenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Karli Eliza Hough, 32, was arrested at 2:41 p.m. Tuesday and charged with petit theft of property between $100 and $300, according to an arrest report.
At about 11:50 a.m., deputies say Hough went into the Kmart at 6126 US 301 in Ellenton and took a television valued at $229.99. She was seen by a Kmart loss prevention officer walking out and loading it into her silver Jeep SUV, according to the report.
Deputies located the suspected vehicle with matching tag number at 2:40 p.m. traveling east on US 301 in Parrish. A deputy reportedly approached Hough after she pulled into the parking lot of a Publix and told her he wished to speak with her regarding a theft that occurred at Kmart.
Hough acknowleded she knew what they deputy was referring to, he wrote in the report. After being read her rights, she admitted to stealing the television and taking it to a pawn shop where she got cash for it, according to the sheriff's office.
The Kmart lost prevention officer responded to the scene and identified Hough, the report states.
Hough is married to Assistant State Attorney Dickey Hough.
