Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County president 'really disappointed' by tree lot break-in

BRADENTON -- Dawn Stanhope, president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, said she is disappointed after the organization's tree lot was broken into sometime between 8 p.m. Monday and noon Tuesday.

The Bradenton Police Department reports a wooden sliding door to a trailer was forced open and a cash register stolen from the trailer at the Westgate Shopping Center, 3913 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

Stanhope said supplies were scattered around the trailer. The stolen register had no money, she added.

Police reported damage to the wooden door and a metallic hook lock on the door, but no other items were stolen.

"It's really a shame when people target organizations that are here to try to do something to support the community," Stanhope said. "It does kind of put a damper on things."

Stanhope is asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact Bradenton police.

"It's really sad that people would do something like that. You're not stealing from me personally, but you're stealing from the organization," she said. "We hope if somebody did see something, to report it."
