One woman seriously hurt, a man survives helicopter crash in remote Sarasota

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office received a report of a helicopter crash at 5:13 p.m. Tuesday. SCSO Air-1 found the aircraft about a mile west of Kenisco Road in south Venice, which is not easily accessible by vehicle.

SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office received a report of a helicopter crash at 5:13 p.m. Tuesday.

SCSO Air-1 found the aircraft about a mile west of Kenisco Road in south Venice, which is not easily accessible by vehicle.

Air-1 was able to land and transport a male and female to the Sarasota County Fire Department Emergency Medical Services, which staged nearby.

The female was airlifted by Bayflite with facial and head injuries to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The male was walking and talking and transported to Venice Bayfront Health by ambulance.

The occupants were a student pilot and teacher who took off from Venice Municipal Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified.

SCSO will secure the scene overnight.
