Sarasota deputies arrest 2 men for funny money at Walmart
SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested two men for passing counterfeit money Thursday afternoon at a Walmart in Sarasota.
Patrol deputies responded to 4381 Cattlemen Road after Walmart loss prevention personnel reported a man tried to use a counterfeit $50 bill at checkout.
Deputies made contact with Ontrel Williams, 25, who reportedly admitted the $1,150 he was carrying was counterfeit. Deputies discovered $1,400 more in counterfeit money in Williams' car in the possession of Gayland Nance, 18. Several bags of suspected marijuana were also discovered inside the vehicle.
Detectives charged Nance and Williams with possession of 10 or more counterfeit bills and both men were held on $1,500 bond.
Serial numbers on the counterfeit bills have been linked to transactions in other parts of Florida and additional charges are pending.
