Palmetto police charge man with trespassing for looking for 'a nice quiet place to pee'

PALMETTO -- A man has been charged with trespassing in a mobile home park and possession of prescription drugs, according to the Palmetto Police Department.

Garrett B. Sweetman, 30, was arrested at 4:04 a.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of Eighth Avenue West.

According to the department's Facebook page, Cpl. Micah Mathews was patrolling around 3:50 a.m. Wednesday when "he noticed an individual acting suspiciously."

Mathews followed Sweetman until he lost sight of him around Publix on Eighth Avenue West. He called for backup unit and found the bike Sweetman abandoned in Palmetto Mobile Home Park.

Mathews and his backup found Sweetman trespassing in the mobile home park as a call came to say someone was walking in her car port.

Sweetman reportedly told police he left his house to find "a nice quiet place to pee." He said he lost his bike while looking for somewhere to go.

Police charged Sweetman with loitering and prowling, trespassing, and drug possessions. Sweetman was held in Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $2,620, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office website.
