Sarasota to swear in 7 new officers
SARASOTA -- Seven Sarasota police officers will be sworn in at 2 p.m. Friday at the Sarasota Police Department, 2099 Adams Lane, Sarasota.
"I'm thrilled to add these outstanding officers to our force," said Chief Bernadette DiPino. "These officers have the qualities the Sarasota Police Department values which are professionalism, dedication and commitment to our community."
The following officers join SPD as Second Class Probation:
Kevin Campbell is a native of Sarasota who graduated from Riverview High School in 2006. He received his associate's degree from Tallahassee Community College, bachelor's degree in criminology with a minor in psychology from Florida State University where he also played football three years. Campbell previously was an officer with the Delray Beach Police Department.
Frank Castro was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, and is bilingual in Spanish. He graduated from Tampa Bay Tech High School in 1998. In 2001, Castro joined the U.S. Air Force as a paralegal. While serving staff sergeant in the Air Force, Castro earned degrees in paralegal studies and aircraft armament systems technology. Castro was deployed to Iraq in 2007.
Dianel DeArmas was born in Havana, Cuba, and is bilingual in Spanish. He immigrated to Florida in 1998 and graduated from Hialeah High School in 2013. DeArmas attended Miami-Dade College and received his associate's degree in criminal justice in 2014 and is working toward his bachelor's degree.
Anthony Misiti was born in West Islip, N.Y., moved to Florida at age 11 and is a resident of Sarasota. He graduated from Riverview High School in 2002, where he was captain of the football team. In 2004, he earned his emergency medical technician/fire science certification from Sarasota County Technical Institute.
Matthew Plough was born in New Brunswick, N.J., and graduated from North Port High School in Sarasota County in 2008. In 2012, Plough earned his bachelor's degree in criminology from the University of South Florida. Before joining SPD, Plough was a police officer with the Daytona Beach Police Department.
Anthony Pullara, born and raised in Florida, graduated from Plant City High School in 2013. He was an Eagle Scout.
Brandon Vermillion was born in Los Angeles and moved to Florida with his family in 2004. He's a 2008 graduate of Lakewood Ranch High School and earned his associate's degree from State College of Florida in 2010 and bachelor's degree in criminology from the University of South Florida in 2012. Before joining SPD, Vermillion spent two years as a citizens patrol volunteer with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The swearing-in ceremony is open to the public.
