SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a 20-year-old Sarasota woman after she stole thousands of dollars from a couple who lived in the assisted living facility where she worked.

The victim's son first contacted the sheriff's office Oct. 6 to report several unauthorized transactions had been made on his parent's debit card since August. The card was canceled by the financial institution and a new card sent but never received.

The next day, the new card was activated by phone using an automated system.

Katherine Murphy of 4306 Winners Circle, Apt. 3112, Sarasota, is charged with five counts of criminal use of personal information and scheme to defraud less than $20,000.

She was held in Sarasota County jail on $39,000 bond.
