Bradenton man charged with grabbing acquaintance's throat during argument

MANATEE -- A Bradenton man was charged with grabbing an acquaintance's throat during an argument, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Shawn M. Helton, 43, was arrested at 1:24 p.m. Tuesday at his home, the sheriff's office reported. According to the victim and witnesses, Helton approached an acquaintance who was sitting outside his own residence in the 1100 block of 50th Avenue Drive West and began to argue with the victim.

According to witnesses, Helton became irate and grabbed at the victim's throat with his right hand.

The victim broke away from Helton's grasp, the sheriff's office reported. Helton fled and was later arrested.

Helton was charged with simple battery and released from the Manatee County jail Wednesday on $500 bond, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office website.
