MANATEE -- Evidence in the investigation of a shooting death outside a strip club in Palmetto at 2:50 a.m. Monday points to self-defense, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Dominic Orr, 27, was found with multiple gunshot wounds when deputies arrived at the Atlantis Gentlemen's Club, 3800 U.S. 41 N. in Palmetto. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspected shooter, Durrell Jones, 21, was seen running east from the scene on 39th Street East and possibly getting into a waiting vehicle.

After releasing a photo of Jones and receiving information about his whereabouts, detectives found him, according to sheriff's office spokesman Dave Bristow. Jones has given detectives a statement about what happened and is cooperating with the investigation.

The sheriff's office will consult with the State Attorney's Office before deciding whether to file charges.

Video obtained by the Manatee County Homicide Investigative Unit from the club surveillance system shows two men arguing and the shooting that ensued.

"Right now the evidence is pointing to it was self-defense," Bristow said Tuesday morning. "We have a good account of what happened."

The video shows Orr attempting to fire the first shot, but his gun never went off, Bristow said.

Two club security guards also fired weapons, according to investigators. All four handguns have been collected as evidence.

"We haven't ruled out somebody else being involved," Bristow said.

It is unclear whether the two men had a history of conflict.
