Venice man dies after running red light in Sarasota, driving into semi

UNIVERSITY PARKWAY -- A 48-year-old Venice man died after running a red-light At 8:10 a.m. Saturday and driving into a tractor-trailer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 31-year-old Myakka man was eastbound on University Parkway approaching Park Boulevard in the left turning lane as Henry Valentino was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang west on University approaching the same intersection, according to the news release. The semi was turning left when the Mustang ran the red light and drove into the rig.

Valentino was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway remained closed for roughly four hours as troopers investigated and cleanup was underway causing major traffic delays. University Parkway reopened around noon, according to the Sarasota County Sheriffs Office.
