Man charged with breaking into Bradenton home after argument with owner

MANATEE -- A 35-year-old man was arrested early Friday after breaking into a home and trying to attack another man, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the 1700 block of 32nd Avenue East at 4:40 a.m. for a burglary in progress, according to a release. When they arrived, they learned that Abram M. Sprogue had kicked open the door to the residence after a 48-year-old man made an "offensive statement" to Sprogue on the front lawn before going inside.

Sprogue went after the victim, chasing him into his bedroom, deputies said. The victim punched Sprogue in the face, causing him to fall down, and tried to restrain him until law enforcement arrived. The victim and his son eventually got Sprogue out of the house instead.

The suspect was arrested at the intersection of 17th Street East and 32nd Avenue East. He was charged with burglary and battery.
