Bradenton driver makes illegal left turn, crashes into motorcycle
BRADENTON --A couple were taken to a hospital after a van crashed into their Harley-Davidson motorcycle in front of Manatee Memorial Hospital, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
At 1:06 p.m., police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Second Street East and Manatee Avenue East in Bradenton.
The driver of a Ford Windstar van was in the center lane of Manatee Avenue East and attempted to make a left hand turn to Second Street East, instead crashing into the motorcycle, according to Bradenton Police Sgt. John Negron. The husband and wife riding the motorcycle were both injured and taken by ambulance to a hospital.
The driver of the van apparently had an appointment at the Gulfcoast Family Practice urgent care center located at the intersection of Manatee Avenue East and Second Street East, police said.
The two lanes of Manatee Avenue were reopened at 1:30 p.m.
Moments after this crash was first reported, police and paramedics were also called out the nearby scene of a crash at the intersection of Sixth Avenue East and Third Street East.
The at-fault driver in that crash was also trying to make an illegal left turn from the center lane, Negron said.
