2 pedestrians killed in Clearwater hit-and-run, driver sought

CLEARWATER -- Two pedestrians were killed in a hit-and-run crash on Memorial Causeway in Clearwater on Sunday night.

According to Clearwater police, a westbound SUV struck a man and a woman on the causeway just west of the crosswalk near Island Way around 8 p.m. and then left the scene.

Both pedestrians were taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where they died.

The roadway was closed for several hours, reopening around 1 a.m.

Police said the vehicle may have been a silver Mercedes SUV and will likely have front-end damage.
