Man riding scooter in East Manatee dies when hit by car

EAST MANATEE -- An 18-year-old man was cited for careless driving after he struck a man riding a scooter who later died, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

About 7:20 p.m. Sunday, Zaccaeus Wiedman of Bradenton was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty in the center lane of eastbound State Road 70 near Interstate 75, when he drifted toward the right lane and hit a scooter driven by Lance Hadden, 41, also of Bradenton, according to a release.

Hadden, who was thrown from his scooter, was taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, where he later died, FHP said.

FHP said Wiedman was cited for careless driving.
