Parrish woman seriously hurt in Manatee accident

MANATEE -- An 87-year-old Parrish woman is in serious condition at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton after the vehicle she was riding in ran a red light and struck another vehicle at 4:24 p.m. Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 2006 Honda Pilot driven by a 77-year-old Bradenton man was stopped northbound on 60th Avenue East waiting for the red light on U.S. 301.

A 2011 Toyota Rav4 driven by 57-year-old Diane Salmonsen of Parrish was westbound on U.S. 301 in the left lane east of 60th Avenue East.

The light turned green and the Honda began to travel northbound on 60th Avenue East as the Toyota failed to stop for the red light and collided with the right side of the Honda, according to FHP.

The Honda driver suffered minor injuries and did not require a trip to the hospital, FHP reported.

Salmonsen, who suffered minor injuries and was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital, was charged with running a red light.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, FHP reported.
