Armed robbery suspect who escaped Sarasota police arrested in Manatee
MANATEE -- A fugitive on the lam since Wednesday when he escaped from Sarasota police while being arrested on an armed robbery charge was arrested Friday afternoon in Bradenton, Sarasota police said.
"Sarasota police would like to thank United States marshal's Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force and (Manatee Sheriff's Office) for arresting wanted subject Demetrius Downer," police said in a news release.
Downer, 21, was arrested by U.S. marshals at a residence in the 6000 block of Third Street East in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
When he escaped Wednesday, Downer still had one handcuff on, police said.
After he escaped, Downer, with the handcuff still on, posted a selfie of himself on social media -- a photograph police included in the release along with one taken after his arrest Friday.
