Parrish homeowner scares off would-be burglar with gunfire

MANATEE -- A Parrish resident scared off a would-be burglar when he fired two gunshots at him Tuesday afternoon, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 1 p.m., a 38-year-old resident in the 5200 block of 119th Terrace East, Parrish, was sitting in his living room when he saw someone walking in his backyard, according to a news release.

"The person stopped in the middle of the backyard for a few seconds and then disappeared out of sight. This made (the resident) uncomfortable and he quickly retrieved his 9mm handgun," a news release states. "He sat back down on the couch and continued to look toward the rear sliders."

The stranger "came back into view, came close to the patio doors and began to slide the patio door open."

The resident then fired twice toward the patio doors, and the would-be intruder fled around the house, according to the sheriff's office.

No one was injured.

The would-be burglar was described as wearing a faded yellowish shirt and khaki shorts. He had a thin build, according to the sheriff's office.
