FHP incorrectly names motorcyclist killed in Palmetto crash

MANATEE -- The Florida Highway Patrol announced Monday it had incorrectly named motorcyclist who died in a crash Friday.

In a report issued Monday, FHP officials correctly said 64-year-old Dennis M. Gingras, of Tarpon Springs, died in the crash.

At 12:05 p.m. Oct. 9, Gingras was riding a Harley Davidson FXDC southbound on Interstate 275 in the left lane approaching southbound Interstate 75 when he lost control a right curve in the roadway.

FHP troopers said Gingras traveled off the north shoulder of the southbound lanes of I-275, the left side of his motorcycle striking a guardrail and ejecting Gingras over it. According to a report, Gingras struck the grass shoulder and tumbled to a stop. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
