Man shot while standing on porch of Palmetto home in stable condition

MANATEE -- A man shot Sunday evening as he was standing on the porch of his Palmetto home is in stable condition, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the 23-year-old man was standing on the porch of his home in the 2300 block of First Avenue East about 8:41 p.m. when a silver or gray Dodge pickup truck stopped in front of the house and one of the two occupants fired several rounds.

The victim was hit in the side of his chest, with the round apparently exiting from the other side of his chest, deputies said. The man was conscious when deputies arrived.

As of Sunday night, sheriff's office spokesman Dave Bristow said the man was in stable condition after being taken to Blake Medical Center.

"No arrests in that yet," Bristow said of the case.
