Manatee man robbed by armed employee

MANATEE -- A 48-year-old man was robbed by his own employee while the two men were stopped at a red light, according to the Manatee Sheriff's Office.

At 5:30 Friday, the victim and employee Francisco Martinez were heading back to the man's shop in a company truck. They stopped at a red light at the intersection of 53rd Avenue East and 33rd Street East, according to the news release.

The victim reported Martinez opened the glove box, took out the victim's wallet and took an undisclosed amount of money.

When the victim asked what he was doing, Martinez lifted his shirt, showing a black handgun, according to the report. Martinez ran from the truck.

The victim was only able to give deputies Martinez's name, but no other details about him.
