Gunshot victim dies in Sarasota, after crash in attempt to reach hospital
SARASOTA -- Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man who crashed as he was trying to drive himself to the hospital, according to the Sarasota Police Department.
On Monday evening, police responded to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of of 25th Street and Orange Avenue in Sarasota, according to a news release. Upon their arrival, they found a man with a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Detectives believe the victim was shot at about 7 p.m. near the intersection of 25th Street and Leon Avenue. The victim they say then drove himself several hundred feet before crashing into a tree near the intersection of 25th Street and Orange Avenue.
The victim has not been identified as police work to notify his next of kin.
Detectives are following up leads, including interviewing possible witnesses, the release states. There have been no arrests made.
