Sarasota shooting leaves male victim with life-threatening injuries

SARASOTA -- The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a victim with life threatening injuries near 25th Street and Orange Avenue.

The police department tweeted the news shortly after 8:30 p.m. Monday.

"At this time what we believe is a shooting occurred between 25th St. and Leon -- somewhere in that vicinity," police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge told the Herald shortly after 9 p.m. "

Police responded to the scene between 7 and 8 p.m. According to Judge, it's still early in the investigation and there appears to be one male victim.

"The victim appears to have driven himself further down the road and crashed on 25th and Orange," Judge said. "It looks like a tree but we're not exactly sure."

The victim's age was not immediately available. He was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
