Bradenton man sentenced to more than 21 years prison for raping 62-year-old woman during armed home invasion

BRADENTON -- A Bradenton man has been sentenced to more than 21 years in prison for raping a 62-year-old woman during an armed home invasion in 2012.

Jamal Blakely, 20, pleaded no contest to charges of armed home invasion and sexual battery with a deadly weapon.

On June 5, 2012, Blakely broke into the victim's Bradenton home, pistol whipped her, robbed her of $800 and a gold necklace, and raped her.

On Friday afternoon, Blakely entered a new plea before Circuit Judge Diana Moreland.

Blakely will serve a mandatory minimum of 10 years of his sentence to run concurrently with four other sentences he is currently serving. He was also granted credit for time served and

will be required to register as a sexual predator.

The plea can only be withdrawn, Moreland told him, if his conviction for a 2011 sexual battery and robbery is somehow dismissed on appeal. In that case, Blakely was convicted of sexual battery with the use of a deadly weapon, attempted armed robbery and kidnapping.

He was sentenced to 35 years for the previous case and ordered to register as a sexual predator.

Blakely is currently appealing the case.
