Man arrested in Bradenton after short standoff with deputies

MANATEE -- A 21-year-old man was arrested on a domestic violence charge after a short standoff late Monday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 10:17 p.m. deputies responding to a report of domestic violence at an apartment in the 6900 block of Manatee Avenue West heard loud screaming coming from the residence with a woman crying, according to a news release.

"The occupants refused to answer the door. It was determined this was a potential hostage situation and a perimeter was set in for the purpose of establishing a crisis incident," the report states.

Deputies used a public address system several times with negative results, but eventually two occupants, the victim and the suspect, Roger Villasana came to the door and were taken into custody, according to report.

"It was determined that Villasana did batter his girlfriend and was currently out on supervised release for the same crime to her a month ago. Villasana is also out on bond with a no contact order placed on him," the report states.

Deputies found several boxes of ammunition in the apartment, according to the sheriff's office.

Villasana faces charges of felony battery, violating supervised release and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, according to the sheriff's office. He was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.

Another occupant of the apartment was arrested on a warrant.
