Manatee County 17-year-old charged with murder in fatal shooting, police say
A 17-year-old Manatee County teen is accused of fatally shooting an 18-year-old man in Sarasota, according to police.
The Sarasota Police Department announced the arrest of William Rosencrantz on Wednesday and charged him with second-degree murder. Because Rosencrantz is charged with a felony, his name is public under Florida law despite being a juvenile.
Officers performed CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived, according to the agency. The victim, an 18-year-old man, died while being transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, police said. Police said he died from a gunshot wound.
“Solving a homicide in less than 48 hours is no easy feat,” Sarasota Police Chief Rex Troche said in a statement. “We owe this to the tenacity of our officers and detectives and their drive to keep our community safe.”
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sarasota Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at (941) 263-6067 or Sarasota Crime Stoppers at (941) 366-TIPS (8477).
