Ellenton man charged with attempted murder after shooting stepson, deputies say
A 50-year-old Ellenton man is under arrest after shooting his stepson multiple times and leading deputies on a chase, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say Micky McGuire got into an argument with a 37-year-old man around noon Friday before opening fire and hitting the victim multiple times. The shooting happened in the 5300 block of 16th Street West in Bradenton, deputies say.
According to the sheriff’s office, McGuire fled as deputies arrived and struck a deputy’s vehicle while driving away. Deputies pursued McGuire before he crashed his vehicle near a Steak ‘n Shake and fled on foot, a news release said.
Deputies detained and arrested McGuire Friday afternoon, charging him with attempted murder, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fleeing to elude, the sheriff’s office said.
The victim was taken to HCA Florida Blake Hospital, where he remains in critical condition as of Friday evening, according to the sheriff’s office.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
