Suspect arrested after armed robbery shooting at Manatee arcade, deputies say

Detectives have charged a man in connection with the April 20 armed robbery at a Manatee County arcade, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Markus Jackson, 39, is charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm. He is also facing an additional charge for allegedly possessing a gun as a felon.

The April shooting took place at the Mega Arcade, 7321 U.S. 41 South (Tamiami Trail), when deputies say Jackson walked into the arcade and held customers at gunpoint, demanding they give him money.

“During the incident, one customer refused to comply and became involved in a struggle with the suspect,” the sheriff’s office said. “The suspect then shot the victim multiple times at close range.”

Jackson was arrested in Sarasota on Thursday. The Sarasota Police Department assisted with the arrest, and Jackson is currently in custody at the Sarasota County Jail, being held without bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

The customer who was shot is at a local hospital, recovering from injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

This incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
