Bradenton man convicted on murder charge after fatal shooting, prosecutors say
A 55-year-old Bradenton man will spend life in prison after a jury convicted him on murder charges linked to a fatal shooting.
Prosecutors with the Twelfth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office said Kevin Maurice Holloway drove past his ex-girlfriend’s Sarasota home, threatening her and two others in the driveway around 12:30 a.m. on July 4, 2024. Before he left, Holloway threatened “he would come back and kill people,” according to a news release.
Less than an hour later, Holloway returned to the house, walked up the driveway dressed in all black, a ski mask and armed with a gun, prosecutors say. That’s when an argument broke out and Holloway began firing, according to court records.
Prosecutors say he shot and killed one man, and fired at others who were running away. He fired nine more rounds at the living room window, where his ex-girlfriend “laid on the floor trying to find cover,” according to the release.
“This Defendant truly believed he could get away with murder,” said the lead prosecutor in the case, Assistant State Attorney S. Ethan Dunn. “His path of devastation and destruction left a family without a loved one and shattered a sense of safety for the surviving victims and eyewitnesses.”
Holloway’s conviction came after a Sarasota County trial that came to a close on April 24.

The Sarasota Police Department and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the scene, and the police department further investigated. The State Attorney’s Office says that Holloway became the main suspect in the case because he was the only one named by any of the eyewitnesses.
The release said several cameras captured the incident, including footage recovered from the phone of the man who was killed.
After tracking Holloway’s car to Miami, the Miami Police Department arrested him about 17 hours after the shooting, the release said.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office found text threatening messages Holloway had sent to his ex-girlfriend, including “several statements to her about how he would go about killing her and anyone he happened to find around her,” according to the release.
Holloway faced charges of first-degree premeditated murder, two counts of attempted first-degree premeditated murder, robbery with a firearm, shooting into a house, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of stalking.
The jury found Holloway guilty on all counts, and he received multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole.
Holloway is also facing trial in a 1999 cold case murder, according to court records. Detectives say he allegedly shot his childhood best friend and set their car on fire after a drug deal. Holloway faces second-murder, arson and tampering with evidence charges in that case.
“The streets of the city and county of Sarasota, Florida and the nation at large are better off with the Defendant behind bars for the rest of his life,” Dunn said.
