Bradenton police are investigating a threat of a school shooting at Sugg Middle School on Monday morning, the Bradenton Police Department said in a news release.

Additional officers are on the campus Monday as the investigation continues, the department said.

The threat originated from a text message that was circulating among students, according to police.

The text message is “regarding a threat of a school shooting,” police said.

Police say they learned about the threat overnight and immediately started an investigation, also alerting the Manatee County School District and sending officers to the school on Monday.

“All threats on school campuses are taken seriously and will not be tolerated,” a social media post by the police department said. “This is an active investigation, and more information will be released when appropriate.”
