Bradenton man faces new charges after pointing gun at deputies, sheriff says
A Bradenton man shot by deputies after pointing a gun at them is facing new charges, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a disturbance in the 2100 block of 59th Street in Sarasota around 6:25 on April 2, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Robert James Boast, 55, was sitting behind the home and pulled a gun from his waistband after seeing the deputies, the news release said.
“Deputies issued clear verbal commands for the subject to drop the weapon,” according to the release.
Boast then pointed his gun in the direction of a deputy, and in response, “two deputies discharged their agency issued weapons,” according to the sheriff’s office.
“Deputies immediately rendered first-aid until Sarasota County Fire Rescue personnel arrived,” the sheriff’s office wrote in an April 3 news release. “He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently listed in critical, but stable condition.”
Boast was originally arrested on an outstanding Manatee County warrant for violating pretrial release conditions in an aggravated battery case. He now faces upgraded charges to the aggravated battery charge, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Section at (941) 861-4900.
