Parrish man accused of beating a child with a pipe, Manatee deputies say
A Parrish man is under arrest after deputies say he beat a child with a PVC pipe.
Eddie Javier, 41, faces a charge of aggravated child abuse, a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison, according to court records.
An attorney representing Javier did not immediately respond to the Bradenton Herald’s request for comment.
Deputies say the child was wrestling with Javier on March 30 when the child experienced an outburst, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
That’s when investigators say Javier responded by grabbing a plastic PVC pipe and striking the child multiple times on both legs.
An arrest report did not detail the child’s age.
Deputies say the child suffered “severe bruising” on both legs, including marks that deputies said were consistent with being struck by a pipe. The injuries were clearly visible the next day when the incident was reported, investigators said.
According to an arrest report, the child directed deputies to the pipe inside the home, which detectives collected as evidence. The child’s mother then identified Javier as the suspect, investigators wrote.
Deputies arrested Javier the day after the alleged abuse. Court records show Javier was released from jail on Wednesday under the supervision of Manatee County Pretrial Services Program. As a condition of his release, he signed a no-contact order prohibiting him from contacting the child or coming within 500 feet.
Court records show Javier pleaded not guilty and requested a jury trial.
Javier is scheduled to be arraigned on May 15 before Circuit Judge Frederick Mercurio at the Manatee County Judicial Center, according to court records.
