Bradenton woman accused of cutting teen with 9-inch knife, deputies say

A Bradenton woman faces a felony charge after deputies say she cut a 17-year-old with a knife during an alcohol-fueled confrontation.

Mariesha Shavon Huxtable, 46, is charged with aggravated child abuse after Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call on March 30 and found a 17-year-old victim with a cut and bruising, according to an arrest report.

Aggravated child abuse is a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison under Florida law.

An attorney representing Huxtable did not immediately respond to the Bradenton Herald’s request for comment.

Deputies arrived at the home around 2:30 a.m. and said they found the teen gathering her belongings to leave. She had a roughly seven-inch laceration on her left forearm, along with bruising on her shoulder and bicep, the report states.

The girl told deputies Huxtable had been yelling at her and calling her names. When the teen opened a door, she found flour and syrup spread across the doorway and saw Huxtable holding a knife, according to the report.

Investigators say the girl tried to leave when Huxtable pushed her and grabbed her arm, cutting her during the encounter.

Deputies found flour and syrup scattered in the hallway and recovered a 9-inch kitchen knife on the floor that was covered in the substances, the report said.

Bradenton woman said she was getting ‘payback,’ deputies say

Huxtable admitted to drinking about nine beers and said she made the mess as “payback” for a prior incident involving the teen, according to investigators. She denied a physical altercation occurred and said the knife was used to unlock doors, according to the report.

Detectives described Huxtable as heavily intoxicated and still yelling at the teen when they arrived.

Deputies arrested Huxtable and brought her to the Manatee County Jail, where she remains in custody. Jail records show bond has not been set at this time. As a condition of any pretrial release, Huxtable is ordered to have no contact with the victim, court records show.

Huxtable pleaded not guilty and demanded a jury trial, records show. She is scheduled to be arraigned on May 15 at the Manatee County Judicial Center.
