A Bradenton woman will serve more than a year in federal prison after prosecutors said she used a fraudulent identity to collect nearly $185,000 in government benefits.

A federal judge sentenced a 69-year-old Jane Doe, also known as Rosario Alaniz, to 15 months in prison after she pleaded guilty in December 2025 to passport fraud, Social Security fraud, wire fraud and theft of government funds, according to court records.

“Jane Doe” is commonly used as a placeholder name in legal proceedings when a person’s identity is unknown or not publicly disclosed.

According to federal prosecutors, Doe fraudulently obtained a United States passport and used a fraudulent identity to receive benefits from multiple federal programs.

Those included Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and disability insurance benefits from the Social Security Administration, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Prosecutors said Doe failed to disclose employment and obtained payments when no payment was due or in amounts greater than authorized. In total, she received approximately $184,904.75 in government benefits, which a judge ordered her to repay in restitution.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, the Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General, Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General.
