Palmetto man faces federal charges for dumping body in ocean, prosecutors say
A Palmetto man faces federal prison after prosecutors say he illegally dumped a body into the ocean in 2022.
A federal grand jury in Tampa indicted 36-year-old Matthew Edward Zoladz on charges of violating the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act and the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
According to the indictment, on Dec. 8, 2022, Zoladz illegally disposed of the body of an unidentified victim in ocean waters. Court records do not disclose in what body of water the victim was allegedly dumped.
If convicted on all counts, Zoladz faces up to 15 years in federal prison.
An indictment is a formal charge alleging that a defendant committed one or more violations of federal criminal law.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case.
