Man arrested after ‘hours-long standoff’ with Bradenton police, department says

Bradenton police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly attacked an elderly family member and initiated an “hours-long standoff,” according to the police department.

On Sunday night, officers received a report of a domestic dispute at a home in the Braden Castle Park neighborhood, where police say Christopher Liebeck, 52, attacked his 87-year-old stepfather.

Liebeck’s stepfather called 911 from a neighbor’s home and reported that Liebeck physically attacked him, the agency said in a social media post. He also said that Liebeck “threatened to hurt others, had taken his phone and owned multiple firearms,” according to the police department.

Police convinced Liebeck’s stepfather to stay with the neighbor while the department secured arrest warrants, according to the social media post.

Police say Liebeck refused to leave the residence. Police officers, along with the Hostage Negotiation Team, SWAT team, drone unit and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, worked to convince Liebeck to exit the home, according to the police department.

The police department wrote in their social media post that the Hostage Negotiation Team “made contact with Liebeck,” while law enforcement monitored the home with drones and the SWAT team waited nearby.

“Following several conversations, Liebeck agreed to surrender,” the police department wrote.

Liebeck is currently held at the Manatee County Jail. He is charged with aggravated assault, battery on a person 65 or older and deprivation of 911, according to police.
