Manatee County hit-and-run kills pedestrian, FHP says. Troopers look for driver

A driver left the scene of a collision that killed a Bradenton man who was using a crosswalk on Monday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The agency is asking for the public’s help to identify the driver.

The crash happened around 6:49 p.m. in the Bayshore Gardens area of Manatee County, a press release from the agency said.

Troopers say a 74-year-old Bradenton man was crossing 60th Avenue West, near the entrance to the Bayshore Gardens Publix at 6030 14th St. W., when a vehicle traveling west approached the crosswalk.

The vehicle hit the pedestrian, and emergency responders later pronounced him dead at the scene, the release said.

After the collision, troopers say the vehicle drove into the Flamingo Garden Apartment complex and briefly stopped before traveling through the complex and back onto 60th Avenue West. The vehicle then continued to drive west, according to the release.

FHP says the vehicle could be a Toyota Rav4 or a Toyota 4-Runner SUV. They said it may be dark gray or black.
