New Year’s DUI enforcement results in arrests, citations, Bradenton police say
On New Year’s Eve, the Bradenton Police Department and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office partnered to crack down on DUIs in the county.
This DUI enforcement operation resulted in nine DUI arrests, two of which were felony arrests, two of which were misdemeanor arrests, according to police.
The law enforcement agencies also reported issuing 80 citations.
This enforcement operation took place mainly between 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31. to 1 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, BPD said.
In 2023, 969 fatal crashes involved impaired drivers in Florida, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
In the United States, 34 people die every day in drunk driving crashes, and in 2023, 12,429 people died in alcohol-impaired crashes nationally, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
