Woman arrested after fleeing state in Bradenton theft case, deputies says

A Manatee County woman accused of knocking a deputy to the ground with her vehicle while fleeing a theft investigation has been arrested after a week on the run, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies said the charges stem from an Aug. 5 incident at the Walmart on State Road 64 East in Bradenton. Investigators said Courtney Stanley, 27, sped away from the store with her 2-year-old daughter unrestrained in the vehicle, knocking a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy to the ground as she fled.

Deputies arrested Stanley Tuesday evening in Hillsborough County and booked her into the Falkenburg Road Jail, arrest records show. Investigators said she traveled to Illinois with her daughter before returning to Florida, where deputies arrested her at a Brandon apartment complex.

The sheriff’s office said Stanley’s daughter appeared unharmed and is now in state care.

Hillsborough jail records show Stanley was booked on a local charge of resisting an officer without violence, along with seven out-of-county warrants connected to the Manatee case. She is being held without bond on several of the warrants.

Stanley faces multiple charges in Manatee County, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude, petit theft with two prior convictions, child abuse without great bodily harm, child neglect without great bodily harm, obstruction and resisting without violence, according to the sheriff’s office.
