Manatee County deputies are investigating after a stabbing and shooting at a Bradenton home left two people hospitalized Tuesday.

Around 8 a.m., the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the 5200 block of 60th Drive East in Silver Lake, a gated community east of Lockwood Ridge Road near Jiggs Landing.

Outside of the home, deputies say they found 21-year-old Dakota Hayes with two gunshot wounds.

Then, deputies say the man’s older brother, 24-year-old Willie Hayes, came out of the house and claimed responsibility for the shooting. Willie Hayes told deputies that he was with his girlfriend when he witnessed his younger brother stab her multiple times.

Willie told deputies that he shot his younger brother in response, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies found a 23-year-old woman inside the home with several stab wounds, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies gave her first aid until EMS arrived and transported her and Dakota Hayes to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The sheriff’s office did not release the woman’s name.

On Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said the woman and Dakota Hayes remain in the hospital, and both are expected to survive.

Detectives also said a motive for the incident remains “unclear.” As of Tuesday afternoon, no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the shooting or stabbing, the sheriff’s office said.
