Deputies arrested a 19-year-old Bradenton man who they say robbed a Sarasota convenience store at gunpoint with an AR-15 rifle.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, a masked man entered the store on Honore Avenue around 4:54 a.m. Tuesday and demanded money from the cashier. The clerk said he carried an AR-15-style weapon, deputies say.

Deputies identified Denzel Alejandro Hernandez Cuevas as a person of interest during the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Later that day, Holmes Beach police stopped a vehicle and found Cuevas driving alone, according to a news release. Deputies say they issued a warrant for his arrest on a charge of armed robbery and took him to the Manatee County Jail.

Cuevas remains held in the Manatee County Jail without bond on an out-of-county warrant for robbery with a deadly weapon, according to the sheriff’s office website.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
