A 25-year-old Parrish man could face up to 20 years in federal prison after prosecutors say he set a rental van ablaze outside a Bradenton motel.

A federal grand jury indicted Kendarius Devonta Stitten on one count of arson under the federal Anti-Arson Act, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Federal prosecutors allege Stitten “maliciously damaged and destroyed” a rental 2023 Chrysler Pacifica by setting it on fire outside the Super 8 motel on 14th Street West in Bradenton.

If convicted, Stitten faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison.

Court records show Stitten was arrested in April, pleaded not guilty and was released while awaiting trial. A jury trial is set for June.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson and Explosives Investigations and Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue, according to a news release.
