Teen charged with attempted murder in Parrish drug deal shooting, deputies say
A drug deal at a Parrish neighborhood pool ended in gunfire Sunday afternoon, leaving a 17-year-old boy critically injured, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said.
A 16-year-old boy is charged with attempted murder after shooting another teen in the left arm, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies said a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl drove to the Summerwoods subdivision in Parrish around 1:30 p.m. Sunday for a drug deal whenthe suspect and a 15-year-old girl approached their vehicle. The sheriff’s office said the suspect then shot the 17-year-old driver before he and the 15-year-old girl ran away.
The injured teen and his companion left the area and later flagged down a deputy for help, the sheriff’s office said. The victim was airlifted to a Tampa hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery, according to the release. Deputies said he is expected to make a full recovery.
Deputies charge Manatee County teen with attempted murder
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies established a perimeter around the subdivision and used a K9 unit to track the two teens who fled. Deputies said they found a backpack in a wooded area containing a handgun and clothing that matched the description of the teens’ outfits.
Multiple residents reported seeing two teenagers running through the neighborhood, according to the release. Investigators said they tracked the pair to a nearby home, where they found a rear sliding glass door open.
Deputies said they located a boy and a girl matching the suspects’ descriptions inside the house. After several minutes, both surrendered to deputies, according to the release.
The 16-year-old boy was charged with attempted murder and taken to the Manatee Juvenile Booking Facility, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives said the investigation remains ongoing.
