A 52-year-old man is under arrest after shooting his nephew during an argument Tuesday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies say Marceleno Rosa got into a “verbal argument” over the phone with his 39-year-old nephew around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, and it eventually turned into a “physical altercation” at the La-Mirada Garden Apartments in the 1600 block of 55th Ave. Circle E., Bradenton.

According to the sheriff’s office, Rosa grabbed a handgun and fired a single round at the 39-year-old victim, hitting him in the pelvic area. Deputies detained Rosa at the scene and secured the firearm used in the shooting, a news release said.

The shooting victim was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, deputies say.

Rosa is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to the sheriff’s office. The investigation is ongoing.
