A man shot and killed his wife before fatally shooting himself Wednesday in Manatee County, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call around 10:30 a.m. reporting two people lying unresponsive in the front yard of a home in the 7200 block of Treymore Court. When deputies arrived, they say they discovered Anthony Evans, 89, and his 88-year-old wife, Lois Evans, each dead from a single gunshot wound.

Detectives found a small handgun near Anthony’s body and a note indicating the shooting was premeditated, according to a news release.

The sheriff’s office says there is no evidence anyone else was involved in the incident. Deputies are investigating the shooting as an apparent murder-suicide.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
